You want your (sports) supplements, vitamins and nutrition to stand out on the shelf. But good product packaging offers many other benefits. Why is a pouch a popular choice? Rob Engelman tells you more!
Moisture, air and UV are the biggest threats to the quality of supplements, vitamins and nutrition. Rob: “For example, moisture can cause lumps in powders, promote the growth of fungi and affect the texture of capsules or tablets. Air accelerates the oxidation of ingredients, which not only reduces efficacy but also shortens shelf life. In addition, light, especially UV radiation, affects sensitive nutrients such as vitamins, fatty acids and amino acids. This can result in flavor loss, color changes and a decrease in nutritional value.” Want to avoid this? Then, as packaging for your (sports) supplements, vitamins or nutrition, it’s better to choose a pouch rather than a jar. Rob explains: “Pots often let air through after opening, which makes oxidation faster. In addition, they offer less effective protection against UV radiation and often require a separate seal to keep moisture out. A pouch combines an airtight seal with multiple layers of protection integrated directly into the material.”
Besides better protection, compared to other packaging for your (sports) supplements, vitamins and nutrition, a pouch is more practical to use. Rob explains: “Whereas jars often contain a lot of unused space, pouches adapt to the contents. For a target group that is often on the go, such as athletes or busy professionals, this is ideal: they can easily carry the product with them. In the bag, the pouch can take a beating just fine. Also, compared to glass, for example, this packaging is much lighter in weight. This makes a pouch a practical solution.”
Where you work toward better health with supplements, you work toward a more sustainable world with a pouch. Rob explains: “A pouch uses significantly less material than traditional plastic jars or glass containers. The flexible design requires fewer raw materials in production, which directly results in less waste. In addition, pouches are lighter and take up less space during transport. This not only means lower transportation costs, but also a significant reduction in CO₂ emissions.” With the new PPWR (Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation), sustainable packaging is becoming increasingly important. Rob explains, “Pouches made of mono-material – made from one type of raw material – are easy to recycle and therefore a future-proof solution. You are prepared for the stricter regulations. But it is also interesting for your brand: it gives you the opportunity to radiate sustainability directly.”
Eye-catching visuals, brand logos, colors and information: Rob explains that there is plenty of room for this on a pouch. “They have large, flat surfaces that can be printed completely. Unlike jars, where the design is often limited to a label. This allows you to fully inform the customer about the product, think about specifics in nutritional values, without detracting from the design.” A lot is possible in design: “For example, you can choose a transparent design, where you show the product directly. This gives the consumer an immediate look at the quality of your product, which inspires confidence. See how we helped EkoPura Nutrition here!”
